Friendly Visiting

For more than 40 years, DOROT’s Friendly Visiting program has created thousands of meaningful and mutually beneficial friendships between volunteers and older adults.

Volunteers elect to make weekly home visits or monthly home visits with a monthly call. During the visits, volunteers and older adults share conversation, opinions, hobbies, walks in the neighborhood and other experiences.

The DOROT social work team matches each older adult and volunteer pair, based upon mutual interests, availability and geographic convenience. Our program model also utilizes DOROT social workers, who provide training and facilitate the relationship providing support to both the volunteer and older adult for the duration of their relationship.

Visits take place in older adults' homes on Manhattan’s East and West Sides and in Westchester.
