About Cemetery Visits

In this deeply meaningful volunteer opportunity you will help provide older adults with comfort and support as they visit their loved ones’ gravesites. You will receive training in the best way to offer both physical assistance and emotional companionship, helping seniors navigate the cemetery and share memories.

We arrange all logistics, including car service, cemetery maps, and other helpful tools.

How It Works

Volunteers meet at DOROT’s Manhattan office at 8:30 AM for orientation before traveling to pick up two or three seniors visiting the same or nearby cemeteries. Cars return by approximately 2:00 PM.

Next Steps

Cemetery visits generally take place on two dates in June. If you’re interested in volunteering, we’d love to hear from you. You can email us at volunteers@dorotusa.org.

What Else to Know

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome individuals 18 years old or older to volunteer for Cemetery Visits.

Time Commitment:

One-time commitment of about 5 hours.

Requirements:

Volunteers will need to present a valid US government-issued photo ID, submit references, and pass a background check. The physical ability to walk distances on uneven and soggy terrain, while providing additional support to an older adult (for example: walking arm in arm or pushing someone in a wheelchair) is also required.

I love this program and prioritize taking a day off work to participate! It’s so meaningful to me to be able to help make this happen.
