New Surgeon General's Advisory on Loneliness & Social Isolation Underscores DOROT's Critical Mission

DOROT commends the U.S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy, MD, MBA, on releasing the first ever Advisory on the dangers that loneliness and social isolation pose to the American public.

For the past 47 years, DOROT has worked to alleviate social isolation and loneliness in older adults by bringing the generations together. We are thrilled that Dr. Murthy is prioritizing this very real public health issue as well as the positive, healing effects of social connection, which is at the heart of everything we do at DOROT.

UPDATE: Read a letter sent to the Office of the Surgeon General by the Coalition to End Loneliness (of which DOROT is a member), applauding his leadership in bringing awareness to the crisis of loneliness and social isolation, and calling for action to create a more socially connected, healthier society.

As Dr. Murthy writes in his New York Times essay announcing the Advisory, “Addressing the crisis of loneliness and isolation is one of our generation’s greatest challenges. By building more connected lives and more connected communities, we can strengthen the foundation of our individual and collective well-being.” Read the full essay HERE.
