April showers bring…National Volunteer Month! All month long, we’ll be sharing stories from our incredible community of volunteers.
Today, we're chatting with Shira Feen, a volunteer for DOROT's Response Team and Package Delivery programs.
How did you get involved with DOROT?
The first time I volunteered was through a partnership event I set up for Yeshiva University + DOROT + Good Deeds Day back in 2017 for the Passover Package Delivery. It was such a great experience that I kept coming back.
What type of volunteer activities do you do at DOROT?
I volunteer at the Package Deliveries, and I also work with one specific woman in my neighborhood where I take care of errands such as mail, ice cream and library book runs :) Anything she needs, as she hasn't left her house in two years due to the pandemic. She even taught me French via zoom for a few weeks!
How do you fit volunteering into your schedule?
It's a priority to me, so I think everyone can make time for things they think are important.
What motivates you to continue volunteering at DOROT?
The appreciation and impact. When volunteering with DOROT you can really see how you can change someone's day/week/month by just giving them an hour of your time.
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
You really are making a difference and you can feel it, it's worth giving a bit of your time to help others.
