April is National Volunteer Month! All month long, we’ll be sharing stories from our incredible community of volunteers.
Today, meet Edna Davoll, a volunteer for DOROT's Response Team, Package Delivery, Birthday Calls and more!
How did you get involved with DOROT?
Prior to my retirement, I was seeking volunteer opportunities and discovered DOROT. I’m very happy to be approaching my 9th year volunteering this coming June!
What type of volunteer activities do you do at DOROT?
I am currently volunteering with the Response Team, making Birthday Calls to seniors. I also participate in Caring Calls and was able to participate in a much-needed program volunteering to schedule older adults for COVID vaccine appointments. Prior to COVID, I enjoyed delivering Birthday gifts and volunteering for Package Delivery for Rosh Hashanah, Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring/Passover and Summer, delivering packages to my assigned senior and spending time conversing with her.
How do you fit volunteering into your schedule?
I appreciate the various volunteer opportunities offered by DOROT. I have time to schedule my personal appointments and have time to continue my social commitments and enjoy my physical activities. Volunteering with the Response Team allows me to preschedule the telephone call at a time of day convenient for my schedule.
What is something you learned as a DOROT volunteer?
I have learned so very much as a DOROT volunteer. I’ve learned how it is essential to be a volunteer at DOROT, a great, caring, organization meeting the various challenging needs of seniors.
What would you want other volunteers to know about volunteering at DOROT?
I want other volunteers to know DOROT is a wonderful place to volunteer and has so many different volunteering options; beneficial to you and seniors!
