DOROT intergenerational pair Nathan Goldberg and Alex Mastey were recently featured on One Move At A Time, a podcast that highlights people and organizations who empower people, enrich lives, and enhance communities through chess.
Nathan and Alex meet up face-to-face across the chessboard every Wednesday for DOROT Westchester's Intergenerational After-School Chess program. The intergenerational friends have built a mutually beneficial relationship since they challenged each other with their chess skills on the first day they met.
The host of the podcast, Dan Lucus notes, "while you may think it’s just the older adults showing the students how to play, the learning and teaching go both ways, with everyone exhibiting patience, respect and an open mind to what they can learn from one another, including gaining a new perspective on another generation."
Interested in joining us for Intergen Chess in our Westchester or Manhattan locations? From beginners to experts, all are welcome. DOROT’s Intergenerational Chess program is about strengthening skills and creating friendships across the chessboard. Each week older adults play chess with experienced chess players who are in grades 6-12. The teens are all capable of teaching and playing individuals with a range of chess abilities, so no previous chess experience is required. A Chess Master is also on site to provide help, guidance and game strategies to players.
