Volunteer Opportunities

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Form friendships, provide support, and create intergenerational bonds by building connections through DOROT. We are looking for Queens-based volunteers ages 14+ to join DOROT's established and widely recognized volunteer programs.

DOROT welcomes everyone, and in particular, seeks individuals with basic Mandarin, Spanish, or Russian language skills to have meaningful interactions with older adults in their native language.

Caring Callers: Connect with an older adult for a weekly 20-30-minute friendly phone call to chat about your neighborhoods, your lives, and common interests. Matches are for eight weeks and often last longer. (For volunteers age 18+) sign up for a volunteer orientation.

GENuine Connections™: Bridge the generational divide. Small groups of volunteers ages 65+ and high school students, meet weekly on Zoom for 4-8 sessions in small groups for meaningful conversations and creative activities led by DOROT Facilitators. Register here.

Legacy Projects: Older adults engaged with DOROT have lived full and interesting lives. Help them share their beliefs and values, life lessons, hopes for the future and special memories, to ensure they will not be forgotten. Lasting Impressions volunteers interview their senior partners on Zoom and help gather and record their legacy stories in writing or through other media (video, audio tape, collage, etc.) as agreed upon. The ideal volunteer has excellent listening, communication and writing skills.
