Creating community is at the heart of DOROT’s mission. We especially welcome the participation of community groups, college students and other adult volunteers who want to join with friends and neighbors to enhance the lives of the older adults. Your community group can:
- Bring warm wishes and companionship to older adults through DOROT’s Package Delivery visiting programs, offered five times per year – Winter, Passover, Summer, Rosh Hashanah and Thanksgiving. Group volunteers can help older adults create packages on a weekday ahead of the program; create cards for seniors as part of the packages; or make deliveries and visits
- Hold a cardmaking event at your own site to make birthday, Rosh Hashanah or Chanukah cards for DOROT elders
- Host a gift drive for seniors who are lonely on their birthdays
- Collect home goods for DOROT’s Homelessness Prevention Program that serves older adults who are homeless or are facing homelessness
- Engage with older adults who visit DOROT for programming on Sundays and evenings, including our Senior Portrait Day, concerts and discussion groups
