Academic Year Teen Internship Program

Make a difference in the lives of older adults as a DOROT Teen Intern!

Each school year DOROT welcomes high school students in ninth through twelfth grades to intern afterschool one afternoon a week. This is a unique opportunity for ongoing community service that meaningfully connects teens with older adults in a variety of intergenerational activities. Teens receive high-quality training and service hours.

Applications are now OPEN for the 2025 Spring Semester, which starts March 31 - May 15.

Spring Opportunities Starting March 31st:

DOROT Teen Internship Program in Manhattan

Join the Academic Teen Internship Program on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for our winter semester. Choose one of the programs below to volunteer one afternoon per week.

Home Visit

Interns are paired together to visit a DOROT older adult who lives on the upper west or east side for 45-60 minutes of friendly conversation and companionship. The visit is scheduled between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM. Choose one afternoon per week: Mondays-Thursdays

Intergenerational Chess

Share your love chess and make a friend across the chess board! Each week older adults learn and play chess with a group of Teen Interns. Mondays, 4:30-6:00pm at DOROT

Artistic Explorations

Join us for an engaging workshop to explore the great works of artists like Paul Cézanne, Romare Bearden, Hilma af Klint, and Alma Thomas. During each session you will learn about one artist’s work, share your personal interpretations, and create art in collaboration with other participants. Let these artist’s masterpieces ignite your creativity as we experiment with different media to create our own original pieces. The workshop culminates in an art display where we will showcase our creations and celebrate with guests. Discover your inner artist while making connections! No experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm!  Tuesdays, 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
